Morbius “The Living Vampire” 2022

Marvels New Legend Has Arrived!

Morbius is a 2022 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Morbius, the Living Vampire, produced by Columbia Pictures in association with Marvel. Distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, it is the third film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU). Directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, it stars Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius, alongside Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. In the film, Morbius becomes a living vampire after curing himself of a rare disease.

Marvel/Sony have come along way over the years, their tight partnership into the spiderman universe. They have given us great movies and not so great movies, but none the less they have still brought us entertainment. Morbius is the latest entry into this partnership, an entertaining movie with some brilliant acting, Jared Leto with another comic book role which I felt was more suited for his acting, he quickly found his place into the mystery of this role. Matt Smith always a pleasure to see on the screen, good to see him in more of (without giving too much away) an interesting role than expected, his acting was great! Jared Harris was also great and even though we didnt see a great deal of him Tyrese Gibson was also good.

The overall film was good, an origin story that sets up some possibilities for the SSU franchise. Noted very well in the end-credit scene. Part of me felt sometimes that the plot had its weak points as an origin story, I felt like it needed a bit more horror elements to it, it was interesting to see the progression of him ‘turning’ and how he deals with his new power, But still felt like it needed a bit…. more, saying that though i am still interested to see what Sony can come up with down the line.

Overall an interesting movie with potentially a great set up for future projects, great acting with some great CGI moments (except for a certain part near the climax) a film worth seeing for sure though maybe limit your expectations while going in, to maybe enjoy the movie a little more than expected.

Here’s what other HR1 Clan members have to say about the movie:

“A Classic comic book movie origin story with an anti hero twist. The cast is spot on and Matt Smith is amazing! Loved the slow mo CGI fight scenes and bat inspired abilities but….. I have no idea what was happening at the end with all the fast moving close up shots during the final battle. Credit scenes definitely felt added or forced but were pretty cool imo”

“I felt it was a safe start to the character. Felt that he could have been a bit more of a likeable human character but a bit more ominus and unforgiving as a vampire. definitely needed to be more scary overall, it felt closer to an old school teen horror, which didnt feel right for me. The special effects overall were good but often masked what was going on in the scene itself. More alluding to what was going on than actually describing/showing it. 6/10”

HR1 LOCKDOWN

“I thought it had a good storyline, for me it had a decent job of showing his back story in such a short film. Some of the action scenes are awesome, however there was a certain predictability from the film, not that its a bad thing just not many surprises is all. the after credit scenes gives me hope for future projects aswell”
